Before the
start of the millennium, more than half of the poverty-stricken households of
Tuguegarao City rely on
agriculture to provide for their family needs.
The lack of appropriate and
affordable farming technology,
farm inputs, planting and post-harvest facilities, as well as adequate capital
contribute to the progressive decline in farm productivity and profitability.
In effect, Tuguegarao City depends heavily on the neighboring towns and
provinces for its food supply.
To reverse the rapid decline in the agricultural
sector and relieve the
farmers of their poor living conditions, the Tuguegarao City Agricultural and
Fisheries Modernization Program (CAFMP) was formulated in CY 1999 and
implemented starting CY 2000. The Program was designed as a complete package of
technology for all farming and fishing households of the City in order to
achieve the desired quality of life while ensuring optimum, balanced, and
sustainable development of the City. The CAFMP consists of five (5) major
components namely: Crops Development, Fishery Development, Cooperative
Development, Farm Home Resource
Development, and Institutional Development. |
